City of Rock-Photo Safari-Fall 2018
City of Rocks holds a number of different photo safaris throughout the year. I was lucky enough to get into the fall safari. The staff gives you technical training on your camera, how to get off the default settings and answers questions while you’re shooting. It’s an incredible experience, not only do you get personalized instruction, you also have access to parts of the park that are harder to get to without a long hike. I would recommend keeping your eyes open for their safaris, either through their Facebook page or Instagram page.
Before I showed up, I had rented a wide angle lens from Whole Brain Photo because I wanted to teach myself how to shoot the Milky Way. This was something that interested me and I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived that one of the techniques we were to be taught was night and Milky Way photography. While I need lots more practice, I now know the basics of shooting the Milky Way. I can’t wait to get out and shoot more next summer.
